The History Center at the Marion Public Library houses a local history museum and the Indiana History & Genealogy Room.

We are a cultural and educational center displaying the diverse history of the many peoples in Grant County. For over 30 years, the History Center has served as a resource for historical knowledge and scholarship to the local public.

Services We Offer

​We work hard to keep our services and resources free and available to the public!

 

History Center staff in our Museum and Indiana History & Genealogy Room are happy to provide these services:

  • Free access to ongoing displays and exhibits on Marion and Grant County history

  • Periodic educational Carnegie Lectures and other events, free to the public

  • Access to primary and secondary resources on local history through the Indiana History & Genealogy Room

  • Assistance with historical and genealogical research

  • Preservation of artifacts from local history

  • An extensive historic photo collection, available for public viewing

  • Digital files of historical photographs from the museum collection (available upon request)

  • Tours of current exhibits (available upon request)

  • Lectures in local classrooms, club meetings, and more are available upon request and may depend on staff availability

  • Access to databases such as Ancestry.com and the Indiana History and Genealogy database

Transportation

Free parking in the lot behind the library & on the streets surrounding the library.  Washington, 7th, Boots, and 6th streets are one-way, as is the MPL drive off of 6th Street.)
