GET A LIBRARY CARD

How to apply

City of Marion property taxes pay for Marion Public Library.

Residents pay for that directly through their property taxes or indirectly through their rent.

You can apply for a library card by following this link to our form. You will finish in person, and you must pick up your card within 30 days of filing an application. Or you can apply in person, as always.

You can check if your address is within the city limits on the Indiana Gateway Site. Follow this link, then click on search by address. Fill in your address, hit search, and see if Marion Public Library is listed. If so, you qualify for a resident card.

At this time, library card renewals can only be done in person. Bring your picture ID and proof of address to update your card.

Those who attend schools within the city limits qualify for 1-year student cards, from elementary through college, even for students who live outside of Marion.

Similarly, nonresidents who own property in Marion can get a 1-year card if they show a property tax receipt.

Those who live outside of the city limits can buy a library card.

Cost:
$64 for 1 year
$32 for 6 months

$16 for 3 months

MPL has gift certificates to pay for a nonresident card. The recipient will need to fill out a form to receive their card.

Cardholders – or parents/guardians of those under 18 - must agree to be responsible for anything checked out on that card.

PLAC Card

A PLAC card allows cardholders to get a library card at any public library in Indiana.

Users first need a home card from another library if users live in a library district; if not, users must purchase a library card from an Indiana library before buying the PLAC card.

Pay $70 a year; can buy PLAC card at MPL or at your home library.

Once users get a PLAC card, they can apply for an MPL library card. Users must apply at other libraries to get privileges at those libraries.

The card is valid for 1 year.
